FCS: Best of 2022
Every year brings its own path of discovery. 2022 was not only a big year for Kansas City but for me and my own attempts to be more of a tourist in my own city. Of all the new places and things I tried this year, these were my favorites. And so once again, I bring you my end of the year Fountain City Superlatives.

The City Board
Earlier this year, Hasbro Gaming and Top Trumps USA announced the release of a Kansas City Edition of Monopoly for the first time in over 25 years. As someone who loves this game and loves this city, I was so excited. But quickly excitement became disappointment as I learned about the nature of property placement in these city edition games. Yet still, I held out hope that this game would be a good thing for KC. With the release of Monopoly: Kansas City Edition yesterday afternoon, this is my first look at the board.

Pi Day? More like Pie Yay! With Pi Day approaching on March 14 (3.14), I decided to write about my favorite piemaker in Kansas City, Easy as Pie. Ok, so I get that the holiday is not about THAT KIND of pie but in all fairness, every holiday deserves a signature dessert. Do you really need a reason to eat delicious, locally made, pie?

Irish I Had a Reuben!
Around a century ago, a hotel chef in Omaha fused together elements of Irish, German, Russian, and Jewish cuisine and then did the most midwestern thing possible - added salad dressing and cheese. Thus, the Reuben was born! As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, bars and restaurants across the city begin serving Reubens. However, for me, it’s a year-round love affair. In this piece, I detail five KC spots where you can grab a Reuben in March, and in the other 11 months as well.
