Herstory of the City, Part IV
As my exploration of Women’s History in Kansas City continues, I look westward to Hollywood. Kansas City was once home to one of the largest Film Rows in the nation. More than dispersing film reels to this nation’s theaters, Kansas City was also exporting some of the biggest movie stars in the nation.
Mi Armour
Before I made Kansas City my home, I will admit that I did not know much of anything about North Kansas City, the suburb just over the Heart of America Bridge from downtown, or its major thoroughfare - Armour Road. With a mix of historic Kansas City institutions and exciting new restaurants, bars, and businesses, every Kansas Citian should make it a point to cross under the Armour Road arch and discover North Kansas City.
Close to Home
About 100 miles north of Kansas City lies the seemingly sleepy town of Skidmore, Missouri. Over the past half-century, Skidmore has become notable for the occasional violent and mysterious incidents that have transpired there. Growing up in nearby Worth County, Kansas City filmmaker Clayton Scott has long been intrigued by Skidmore’s grisly past. Real-life crimes in Skidmore were the influence behind his most recent film, “Below the Fold”.
