Mr. Dignan’s Wildcard Ride
There is a magic to October baseball that is beyond definition. During the scorching dog days of summer, I sit at the ballpark sipping on a cold beer dreaming of the days where I can throw on a hoodie and watch this sport I love take on new life. While it has been a long 9 year wait, it seems so short after the previous 29. There was always a faith that we could make it back to this place because unlike the last run, this generation had seen it before.
Herstory of the City, Part II
In celebration of Women’s History Month, I am telling but a handful of the stories of the amazing women who shaped this city, region, and the world. This week I explore the Berry Sisters and the celebrated institution that they gifted this city with - Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Crying For Ol’ Buck
I will never forget where I was on December 5, 2021 when the seemingly impossible happened - legendary Kansas City Monarchs first baseman and manager Buck O’Neil was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. And even though, he always told his fans not to cry for him - how could I not?
Sing The Queen City
In the aftermath of COVID-19, I could not wait to travel again! As a baseball fan with the obvious goal of visiting every Major League Baseball stadium, one had always evaded me - Great American Ballpark, home of the Cincinnati Reds. Prepared to fly for the first time in 16 months, I had no doubts where my first trip would be. While I came for the baseball and chili, I found in the Queen City an absolute gem of a city that more people should be talking about.
#nomaDD: MLB Stadium Rankings
#nomaDD posts take me beyond Kansas City. As a travel enthusiast and lifelong baseball fan, I have had the opportunity to catch a game at 31 different MLB stadiums. These are my personal rankings of these ballparks.
